Talk Nerdy to Me

Hear that? is the sound of my mind being BLOWN!!!

I LOVE THIS!. Nicole Martinez is [obviously a genius] an art director and designer from Boston Massachusetts. “Nerdy Dirty” is a series of illustrations about love, crafted by her. These technically clever prints are dedicated to the inner geek in all of us. Geeks unite!
“My boyfriend and I came up with the phrase ‘nerdy dirty’ a while ago because we would say such nerdy things when we were trying to be romantic.” shares Nicole. “So when I got the urge to design something sweet I could only think of things like ‘Arota tell you how much I love you’. Hence, Nerdy Dirty posters were born.”

Prepare to swoon people,

Check out all of Nicole's work HERE.

Found HERE.

Do you likey???

XOXO

Really small but Really clever

Here are 3 really-really small spaces with a ton of personality.

I honestly was like: SAY WHAT!? Can't believe a place so small can look that good and be so functional at the same time!!!

1: Grown-up and sophisticated
{rich tones and textures and a jazzy, elegant vibe... I wanna touch everything in this room!!}

2.- sunny, cheerful, modern
This is probably not the direction I would take, but I have to admit some of the choices here are genius!!!
{gorge window treatment!}

3.- Finally, we have this awesome living/office area
Which is absolutely fabulous. I love the neutral, organic elements, love the white, the house plant
and the DESK!!! this place is small but looks super-duper comfortable!

Do you have a fave???

Love a Window Seat

Nothing cooler than being inside but feeling you're outside. Right, I make no sense.

What I mean is, I LOVE a space that brings the outdoors in!!! don't you? Here is this amazing small modern home outfitted with the coolest window seat. Seriously.

Carter Williamson Architects created this place, with interiors that seem to flow seamlessly right into the great outdoors. This Sydney, Australia house design features a massive sliding glass wall that lets natural light flood the space.

The dining table offers an always pleasant view, and across the dining nook, the kitchen features clean, contemporary finishes. This space is a combination of living/dining/cooking area that sure invites you kick back.

Awesomeness!

This is a crazy cool modern California loft. And guys, I am  in love. What a charming and perfect place!!

A poorly planned, 1,100 sq. ft. loft in the historic Besler Building - a former steam-engine factory in Emeryville, California - was transformed into an efficient, livable and beautiful modern loft. It was two years in the making, with their home transformed into a gritty construction site on weekends, but homeowners and designers Lynda and Peter Benoit, (Peter a senior architect with local firm Melander Architects) took the loft from dark and dingy to open and sun soaked, with a 16 by 17 by 10 ft. box at its heart housing a private bedroom within its wooden walls.

GENIUS!

Small spaces call for big ideas [♥]

Ok, lets face it, most of us don't live in mansions... actually, quite the oposite. So we need to think big and trust our imagination to make the most of the space we've got. I love posting about small spaces and how to decorate them, I think it's amazing what you can do with a little bit of inspiration. So, here are some ideas.....

In the dining room, create a focal point in one of the walls, and make sure you incorporate one really great buffet or storage unit for dishes, napkins, bowls, etc. This one has mirrors and it's perfect with all the metalic accents. Get rid of high cabinets and keep everything waist low. Leave the walls clean except for the one wall that will have all the accents, place a large mirror in the oposite wall. You will be surpirsed at how big the space seems!

This living room seems a lot biger than it is because: everything is neutral, except for the black and the green accents that just add personality. The windows are big and the natural light is a very important element. Notice how the curtains were hung way above the trim and they go all the way to the floor, giving the sensation of very high ceiling. The mirrored coffee table sort of creates an optical illusion, I personally LOVE it.

In this small dining area, they took advantage of the wonderful architecture of this house and the amazing windows (I die for those!!!) and built a window bench that becomes part of the dining arrangement. The wall color seems to become one with the blue sky outside and brightens the place in a really inviting way.

In a small place, specially a little living space, you wanna keep things cozy... here, by the window, they have cleverly created a very cozy nook by hanging that lamp real low, close to the table, then adding a big, round coffee table and the floor pillows... and tons of style!

In this little area where they had to incorporate the dining space into the living room, the window provides the perfect setting. But there are many other reasons why this room rocks: Tall curtains that look like columns, perfect white chairs with chocolate brown frame, loads of neutrals to allow the amazing floor to do its thing... and a few pops of color here and there. I love those vases!

For easy organizing...

If you, like me, feel like a cluttered house to start the year deserves a big fat NO.. then you'll appreciate a little inspiration in that department. Here is a fabulous example on how to organize two different areas of your home.

I will begin with the Laundry Room, because in my case, its the one that need the most work and sometimes I feel a bit frustrated. This is right up my alley..... Please note the labeled boxes on the top shelf and the gorgeous b&w photograph. This laundry room sings to me and I hope mine can look like this pretty soon!

In the case of the Dining room, if you have any kind of mess going on, you might want to consider a visit to the flea-market, because a cabinet like this one will be perfect for your needs. This works because it has a covered area at the bottom where you can place all those things that you don't want to be showing. And display all the pretty china above. Seriously... what a clever solution!

On the oposite wall, puh-lease!!! take a look at that perfectly styled buffet that really is the perfect storage solution. Perfect example that there is NO need to sacrify the style in order to have a functional dining room.

Annnd! I know this has nothing to do with the storage and organizing but please just look at that table!!! This place is a dream, really... the room is teeny, and yet, everything seems to just fit right in!

TWO clever christmas solutions ;)

WOWza, I saw this and I was instantly in-love. Can you believe this picture below and how simple yet perfect this christmas décor solution is? If you have modern, white (or cream) chairs like these... go for it!

The second clever solution here is the cards hanging from the cute coat rack... I admit it, sometimes I can't find anything to do with all the cards I get and this to me is just too good. They sure can add instant cheer to any corner ;)

The Man: Thom Filicia

Well... I normally don't post twice in one day (wish I could though) but today I have to.... because I can't wait to share with you my love for this man's style...

°°°

Thom Filicia, most famous for his role as Interior Design expert at the show Queer Eye for the Straight guy, is a very talented individual, Thom is the founder of his own interior design company Thom Filicia Inc (www.thomfilicia.com) where you can find his portfolio and more information about him.

Thom says: "Your home should be an extension of your personality. If your kids are little Picasso's, showcase their artwork around the home. No need to spend a lot of money on expensive gallery art. Find a frame that works with your decor (you can't go wrong with a black, matte frame) and place it over the mantel, in the hallway or kitchen. No kids? No worries! Consider framing a map from your favorite city. It's offbeat and an instant conversation starter"

Thom's new book: Thom Filicia Style. A MUST HAVE!

The two images above are from Thom's Hamptons Showhouse.

The Clever Moves!

What a wonderful thing indeed, when we can transform the feeling in a whole room by one single clever move! I am in love with these ideas I found in Better Homes & Gardens (www.bhg.com).
This bellow, is a painted rug! yes, choose your paint color and get to work, there's also a FABULOUS version of this idea on my favorite Blog: 'Making it Lovely' (http://makingitlovely.com/) where Nicole Balch painted a truly amazing rug out on her porch... (you're thinking it might be too much work??? Nicole was nine months pregnant when she did it!)

This here is a really clever way of adding personality and charm to an old table by the window, just get some vintage glass jars and fill them with fruit, two colors will do... the place will look happy and refreshed! Another colorful option? CANDY!
