John Robshaw revisited

I keep going back to cutie John Robshaw's website because I dont think there is another textile designer who's work makes my heart skip two beats everytime. There is so much love of Nature in his work, so much respect and freedom.

{See my previous post on Robshaw's work HERE}

And everytime i visit his website i find something new and totally swoon-worthy.
See for yourself :)

"By producing my textiles abroad, I get to become a minor character in the lives of the people I work with, and I can take inspiration from what I see and do there. I go to their weddings, celebrate their festivals, I get sick with them, I develop relationships with the people who are teaching me. When you look at my textiles, its like you've been on the world tour along with me."

Loves it???????
Oh... please excuse moi for not posting since monday, you see, I am on a business trip in San Francisco and Salt Lake City and, well, you know how it is.

Textile ♥ Love: John Robshaw

OK, I am completely fascinated and obsessed....John "I-caught-the-Asia-bug" Robshaw is not only all kinds of cute but he is also OH so very talented!...

He earned a fine arts degree at Pratt and then studied traditional block printing in China, then he journeyed to India to find natural indigo dye for his paintings. But he fell in love with the local artisans fabric-making traditions, it became a lifelong fascination.

"It's so simple and natural. You touch a woodblock to wet clay and then to the fabric. After the clay dries, you dip the cloth into the indigo vat and the clay stays on. One dip gives the fabric a sky-blue color, two dips and it deepens to cobalt, three dips and its a saturated midnight blue. Then the fabric is laid out to dry in the sun and later the clay is washed off. The dyer says the indigo vats are like a mistress because they need constant attention. I was completely fascinated by the dyeing and printing processes, as well as how the finished product is used. Textiles become intimate companions in daily life, whether as a pillow, bedcover or sarong."

So beautiful!

Lisa Fine Textiles

Flipping through the fabulous web pages of my beloved Lonny, I came across an article about Lisa Fine, a textile artist who's work I am really crushing hard on right now. Here are some pictures of her Paris home that will give you an idea of how fabulous she is.

Go to Lonny for more!

Fine is inspired by India's embroidery, silks, and lush colors -- pink with orange, a few hits of pistachio-green -- as well as Turkish and Moroccan styles
