Textile ♥ Love: John Robshaw

OK, I am completely fascinated and obsessed....John "I-caught-the-Asia-bug" Robshaw is not only all kinds of cute but he is also OH so very talented!...

He earned a fine arts degree at Pratt and then studied traditional block printing in China, then he journeyed to India to find natural indigo dye for his paintings. But he fell in love with the local artisans fabric-making traditions, it became a lifelong fascination.

"It's so simple and natural. You touch a woodblock to wet clay and then to the fabric. After the clay dries, you dip the cloth into the indigo vat and the clay stays on. One dip gives the fabric a sky-blue color, two dips and it deepens to cobalt, three dips and its a saturated midnight blue. Then the fabric is laid out to dry in the sun and later the clay is washed off. The dyer says the indigo vats are like a mistress because they need constant attention. I was completely fascinated by the dyeing and printing processes, as well as how the finished product is used. Textiles become intimate companions in daily life, whether as a pillow, bedcover or sarong."

So beautiful!

Lisa Fine Textiles

Flipping through the fabulous web pages of my beloved Lonny, I came across an article about Lisa Fine, a textile artist who's work I am really crushing hard on right now. Here are some pictures of her Paris home that will give you an idea of how fabulous she is.

Go to Lonny for more!

Fine is inspired by India's embroidery, silks, and lush colors -- pink with orange, a few hits of pistachio-green -- as well as Turkish and Moroccan styles

Enjoying the outdoors!

Well... it's no secret that I LOVE outdoor spaces, I stare at photos of beautiful backyards and patios for hours and I have posted here a ton of pictures and back in May I even listed and ranked the BEST outdoor spaces I have ever seen (HERE).... the true reason behind my behavior is the fact that I havent had any progress on my own backyard makeover (sigh...) that's because it's been raining everyday and plants here are growing fiercely, I have been waaaay too busy at work, and also because I spent half of my budget on other things = (

Anyway!! Still, when I look at these pictures with lovely inspiration, I can't help but feel happy and motivated. I hope they do the same for you, and if you are in fact planning your backyard makeover, they might be helpful.

Lovely, colorful outdoor fabrics are a MUST!

Entertaining outside?? Try these!

Pick a color, if not a theme....

More perfect fabrics!

Les Indiennes.... pure love.........

Hello FRIENDS!!! I am particularly happy today because it smells like rain here in PV, (Puerto Vallarta) it feels as if it will come any minute, maybe it will be another few weeks before the rainys season kicks in but still, there's this lovely smell in the air and it's cloudy for the first time in quite a while. We get lightning storms here, it really rains hard, but only in the afternoon and for a couple of hours... then, it goes away and the air feels clean and cool as ever... I can't wait...

Anyway, I was browsing one of my fav blogs the other day, House Martin: http://housemartin.typepad.com and I found something about the new stuff from Les Indiennes, well, I was crazy about the posted image so I went straight into their web-site and here's what I found... catch your breath!

Les Indiennes by Mary Mulcahy, is an amazing brand of textiles that is inspired in indian style, made fresh and simple. She extracted color and simplified certain motifs to turn traditional indian style into something more soothing and pleasing to the western eye.

More importantly, the production of these fabric does not cause pollution nor does it disrupt the traditional lifestyle of the village where it is made. Les Indiennes provides fair trade employment for over 50 families, raising the standard of living for the entire community, and all the while leaving no environmental or social footprint.

I think this is amazing. I am in-love with the patterns and how every image feels like 'home'.
